More Pumpkins!

A large brace map was created for the class for discussion.

This writing activity worked extremely well.  Most of the children understood the concept of writing from the Thinking Map.
I am so proud of these! Students chose their own ending word from the map!

The pumpkin cycle activity...

The two sides of the picture cards are shown.  Students had to match the word to the picture and glue them back to back.

Then the cards fit neatly inside the pumpkin (more or less)!

Addition with Creepy Creatures

I bought several bags of these creatures at the Dollar Tree. First, I asked students to sort and count their creatures.
Then I asked different students to put some of their creatures in the pocket chart. My next step was to demonstrate the beginning concepts of addition.

I even made this worksheet to go with this activity.

Pumpkins, Pumpkins, Pumpkins!

We started by looking at a real pumpkin and talking about what it was like.  We used describing words to create a bubble map.

Then we took those describing words and wrote them on a sticky note and placed them into the Pumpkin Song. This is another of Jump's ideas.

Finally we wrote and drew about pumpkins.

More on pumpkins coming soon!

Spider Books

Check out these darling spider books we made today in class!  My partner K teacher came up with this idea inspired by a resource found on the internet.  She was gracious enough not only to share her idea; but also to share her volunteers who used a cricut machine to cut out the large spider and the smaller ones found on each page.

Also Mr. Jerry Crabs just molted this weekend! We came back to a pile of  limbs at the bottom of his cage, but he was looking pretty normal otherwise!  Sorry no picture of the limbs!

Spiders and Pumpkins

We have been working on spiders and are starting pumpkins in our units of study.  We have heard a lot of nonfiction stories in our learning which aligns with the common core standards.

More pumpkins learning and fun to come!!

Cookie the Cat, Simple Circle, Fall themed projects

After reading Cookies Week we made a cookie the cat art project with paint, paper plates, and construction paper.

We continued our shapes with this simple circle project.
We used magazines to search for, cut out, and glue, green items to fill in the middle of the circle.

We are moving into fall themes with this interactive writing chart and AB pattern haunted house project.

The children are learning so much so quickly!  We have had an incredible beginning to this year!
