Five Friday

I am linking up with Kacey over at "Doodle Bugs Teaching" with my five!
All the kindergarten and transitional kindergarten students had a great time on field day.

Bubbles station
Ring toss
Chalk station

We also had an otter pops station. But it was a bit early and cold for them!

I often get letters or cards from my students.  Some of them are not well written, but this one is a keeper!

I was deleting old photos from my Ipad and I came across these pictures of our kindergarten field trip that I never shared. We went to "Forever Wild Exotic Animal Sanctuary."

I am on my summer break now.

Show and Tell: TK/K (May)

I am linking up with Stephanie of Forever in 5th Grade for Show and Tell Tuesday.

After reading a story about a boat sinking. I challenged the students to create a boat that would carry the most bears across the water with out sinking.

Since we were working on a plant unit, I really wanted to reinforce the vocabulary of the parts of the plants so we did this labeling project. I used white yarn for the roots, green tissue paper for the leaves, a green strip of foam for the stem, and a water-colored coffee filter for the flower.

The fire department came out for a visit to talk to the TK/K children about fire safety. They showed the children the equipment they use to rescue people. Each child got to sit in the truck for a peek inside.

Community Helpers Town (Show and Tell Tuesday)

I am linking up with Forever in 5th Grade for this month's Show and Tell Tuesday.

Children are playing with open-ended materials.  They told me they were making a house.

This is our new "Quiet Area." When the children have hurt feelings, get  a "boo boo," or feel tired they can rest in here for a little while. There is a blanket and several teddy bears inside for comfort.

This picture cracked me up!  These three were so sure they had spelled the word "cat." They had no idea that their bodies weren't in the correct places.

This is our community helpers and town project.  Children colored several pictures that included: a coffee shop, bakery, hospital, fire station, police station, school, library, pizza shop etc.  These pictures were cut and glued on to stuffed paper bags and an empty box. They also colored the matching workers and we glued them onto a craft stick. Then they were able to play.  These printables are found free at the link below.

Five for Friday 3/11--.Show and Tell (March)

I am linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching for "Five for Friday".  Thank you to Kacey for hosting.

I am also linking up with Forever in 5th Grade for the monthly "Show and Tell Tuesday." Thank you to Stephanie Rye for hosting!

This show and tell is all about the beginning process to creating a classroom that conforms to the "Early Childhood Environmental Rating Scale." That is ECERS for short. Here are my baby steps...

My first move was to bring back the kitchen furniture that had been in storage all these years "for a defined interest center."

Here is the addition of sand play area.  I purchased the play sand and tub at Lowe's for about $13.00. Provisions for sand and/or water play was an area I was missing.

Last week we had a beautiful weather day.  I planned a nature walk with the class.  This gave us an opportunity to put together a nature tray. The tray is accessible all day.
This is only one of the nature collections we have.  We also have explored seashells.  The nature/science area is a work in progress.  It is still missing required materials.

To be continued...

My TK group has been working on making pictures out of shapes.

This "shape man" was made from attribute blocks!
